There is no scientific evidence that suggests that the time of day that a
person takes vitamins either reduces or enhances their effectiveness.
What is more important is that the vitamins are taken consistently.
But taking some vitamins at
a specific time may help to reduce the risk of any adverse effects. For
example, depending on the type of vitamin, taken with food, can boost how much
of it the body absorbs and improves its impact on one’s overall health.
I will try to explain the ideal way to take different types of vitamins
over the course of the blogs that I will be posting.
Different vitamins work in different ways. In other words - “How do I take them”? “Can I take them on their own”? “Do I take them with food”? This will depend on the type of vitamin that
you are going to be taking. Is it
water-soluble? Is it fat-soluble?
Although research has some recommendations so that side effects are
prevented, science generally does not support any specific recommendations for
taking vitamins at particular times.
More importantly, vitamins should be taken regularly and not have any breaks
in their daily supplementation, especially if the vitamins are being taken to manage
a deficiency.
It would be better to avoid supplements completely and get enough
nutrition from a balanced diet but in our current environment this is not easy. When vitamin supplementation is necessary, be
sure to fit them into a regular schedule but this will also depend on the type
of vitamin that you are going to be taking.
I will be discussing Water-soluble vitamins (Vitamin B’s and
Vitamin C) and when might be best to take them in our next blog.
